It all began with Bodybuilding...

Most of us have surely felt the excitement generated by a boxing match, or experienced that electric moment watching the physiques of Olympic wrestlers, or the crucial instant when a weightlifter executes a record-breaking lift. On many occasions, we have been awed by the strength, speed, endurance, and even the agony and suffering of the athlete, viewing them through a romantic and heroic lens.

The result can be a desire to transform ourselves, drawing something from our own body that leads us to success and earns us that admiration from those who will take our place as spectators.

SPORTFORMA Guido CarliIf the feeling we experience becomes strong enough to overcome inertia, we feel driven to act and transform ourselves into that image of an athlete we have shaped in our mind. That is how we began as well, with the determination to acquire the endurance, skill, and strength required to steadily improve our performance.

Physical culture holds a powerful fascination. The weight room is an almost sacred place, where the sound of weight plates creates a mystical atmosphere that imprints in the minds of athletes the image of what they want to become. A physical transformation occurs rather slowly and with considerable effort. We certainly cannot expect to sit passively watching a competition on television and become champions. We must be directly involved in that environment to grow and progress. Success—even the smallest success—requires effort. It may be necessary to change certain habits in eating, sleeping, training, or studying, but the feeling of excitement for what we are "about to become" will give us the determination to start, or at least to try. It is that same belief in ourselves and faith that we can achieve greatness that drives us forward, even when muscle soreness screams at us to stop, making us feel exhausted yet deeply satisfied after every exercise, as we discover that the limits of fatigue push further away each time, allowing us to exert more energy for longer periods. But above all, we truly love this feeling.

Indeed, it is no coincidence that bodybuilders striving to be champions during the "golden era of bodybuilding" organized their training according to their body's potential, in gyms equipped with specialized machinery, with progress constantly evaluated alongside others at varying tempos.

Finding a "training partner" means far more than simply having a personal trainer or a spotter ready to step in when needed, or having an external view of our work.

As the saying goes: perfect practice makes perfect. It is a matter of spirit and brotherhood: getting to know one another, trusting, understanding each other.

Here, the weight room becomes a place of learning and mentorship: senior members with years of experience act as tutors, passing down methods and principles to younger newcomers. This creates pathways of growth that extend far beyond training, giving rise to entire generations of athletes, each with its own spirit and identity.

In this context, the emerging figure of the athlete—the "trailblazer"—is not just a trained physique, but a beacon and mentor. Around them, a team, a laboratory, and a school take shape, where seasoned veterans, on a voluntary basis, pass on methods, principles, and knowledge to those embarking on this journey for the first time. Generation after generation, this has built bonds of trust and mutual learning that fuel a genuine sports community.

Because in the cycle of teaching and passing the torch, every workout is also a legacy—one that allows us, one day, to understand whether we have truly reached our goal. So, let us take a step back along our journey to understand.
