Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of sporting contest, with roots reaching straight back to the Olympic Games: it is the very essence of combat training between two people who measure themselves against each other, standing and on the ground, with physical, tactical and mental skills.
To the question "Why wrestling?", no one has answered better than Aleksandr Karelin — three-time Olympic champion, nine-time world champion, twelve-time European champion — when it was put to him on the official website of the International Federation:
«Wrestling is the ideal activity for forging both body and spirit. It helps turn fragile, awkward boys and teenagers into strong, determined young adults who are aware of what they can do. It is a passion that can give meaning to life and that demands respect for others: a permanent engine that drives each of us to improve. Whoever finishes a bout as the winner will do anything to relive that feeling, and a wrestler never reaches the peak of his own improvement. Wrestling teaches kindness, honesty and a good relationship with oneself.»
It is the same spirit that drives SPORTFORMA's wrestling training, at the gym in via Stoppani 7: a path that trains strength, body control and discipline together, then leaves each person free to choose between the styles of Olympic wrestling — Greco-Roman and Freestyle — or to approach the more traditional forms, which differ from country to country. We are not looking for champions: we are looking for people willing to test themselves, and to do so together.
